Returns and filings we handle for business clients

Most business owners come to us with more than one filing obligation. These are the ones we take on year to year.

  • Federal entity returns. Form 1120 for C corporations, 1120S for S corporations, 1065 for partnerships and multi-member LLCs, 990 for non-profits, and Schedule C or Schedule F carried onto the owner’s personal return for sole proprietors and single-member LLCs.
  • Owner and shareholder reporting. Schedule K-1 preparation for every partner, member or shareholder, coordinated with the personal returns we prepare so the two agree.
  • Ohio and municipal filings. Ohio pass-through entity and commercial activity filings where they apply, plus municipal net profit returns for Lancaster and surrounding jurisdictions, including RITA and CCA.
  • Payroll and contractor reporting. Quarterly payroll tax filings, W-2s and 1099s through PAYROLLSAFE, our in-house payroll division.
  • Back returns and agency notices. Unfiled prior-year business returns, and correspondence with the IRS and the Ohio Department of Taxation on your behalf.
  • Year-round planning. Entity selection, reasonable compensation for S corporation owners, depreciation and asset purchase timing, and estimated payment planning — decisions that are far cheaper to make before year end than after.

Business tax questions we hear most

What business entity types do you prepare returns for?

Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs (Schedule C), multi-member LLCs and partnerships (Form 1065), C corporations (Form 1120), S corporations (Form 1120S) and non-profit organizations (Form 990). If you are not sure which applies to you, bring your formation documents and we will sort it out.

When are business tax returns due?

Partnership and S corporation returns are generally due March 15, and C corporation and non-profit returns on the fifteenth day of the fourth or fifth month after year end depending on the entity and fiscal year. Extensions are available, but tax owed is still due on the original date.

Do you file municipal and RITA net profit returns?

Yes. Ohio businesses often owe municipal net profit tax in more than one jurisdiction, and we prepare those filings, including RITA and CCA, alongside the federal and state returns.

Can you handle my payroll and my business return together?

Yes. PAYROLLSAFE is our in-house payroll division, so quarterly payroll tax filings, W-2s and 1099s can be handled by the same firm that prepares your return. See our payroll services.

What if my books are behind or I have unfiled returns?

We prepare unfiled prior-year business returns and can bring your bookkeeping current first if needed. Bring whatever records you have — bank statements and a rough picture are enough to start.

Should my LLC elect S corporation status?

It depends on your profit level, how much you take as owner compensation, and your plans for the business. It saves some owners meaningful self-employment tax and costs others in added filing complexity. We will run the numbers on your actual figures before recommending it.

Do you work with our bookkeeper or accounting software?

Yes. Our QuickBooks Pro advisors work with clients on-site or off-site, and we are glad to coordinate with an in-house bookkeeper. We also offer full accounting and bookkeeping services if you would rather hand it off.

How do I get started?

Call 740-653-7301 or use our contact page. Bring last year’s return, your formation documents and your current-year financials, and we will tell you what else we need.
