What to bring to your tax appointment

Having these in hand at the first meeting is usually the difference between finishing in one visit and trading emails for a week.

  • Identification. Photo ID, plus Social Security or ITIN numbers and dates of birth for you, your spouse and every dependent.
  • Income records. W-2s, 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-B with cost basis, 1099-R retirement distributions, SSA-1099, K-1s, gambling winnings and unemployment statements.
  • Deduction records. Mortgage interest (1098), real estate and personal property tax bills, charitable receipts, medical expenses, student loan interest (1098-E) and tuition (1098-T).
  • Health coverage and credits. Form 1095-A, 1095-B or 1095-C, childcare provider name, address and tax ID, and any IRS letters reporting advance credit payments.
  • Payments already made. Federal, Ohio, school district and city estimated tax payment records with dates and amounts.
  • Business, rental or farm activity. Income and expense summaries, mileage logs, asset purchases with dates and costs, and prior depreciation schedules.
  • Last year's return. If we did not prepare it, the prior-year return tells us about carryforwards, basis and elections that carry into this year.
  • Banking information. Routing and account numbers for direct deposit of your refund or direct debit of a balance due.

Tax preparation questions we hear most

Who prepares my tax return at DeLaney & Co. CPA?

When you book an appointment you meet with one of our trusted, local Certified Public Accountants. We take the time to understand your situation rather than moving you through a seasonal assembly line, and our firm has over 50 years of experience behind that work.

Can I have my taxes done without coming into the office?

Yes. We offer an online client portal for remote assistance and in-office no-contact service, alongside traditional in-person consultations. You choose whichever fits your schedule.

What documents do I need to bring?

Photo ID and Social Security numbers for everyone on the return, all W-2s and 1099s, mortgage interest and property tax statements, 1095 health coverage forms, records of estimated payments, and last year's return if we did not prepare it. The full checklist is above.

How long does it take to get my refund?

We e-File with direct deposit, which is the fastest route. The IRS issues most refunds within 21 days of accepting a return, though returns claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit are held by law until mid-February.

Do you file Ohio school district and city income tax returns?

Yes. Along with your federal and Ohio returns we prepare Ohio school district income tax returns (SD 100) and municipal returns for Lancaster and surrounding jurisdictions, including RITA and CCA filings. These are easy to overlook and a common reason Ohio taxpayers receive a notice.

What if I have not filed in years, or I received an IRS notice?

We prepare unfiled back returns and handle IRS and Ohio Department of Taxation correspondence. Bring the notice and whatever records you have, and we will work through the open years and respond to the agency on your behalf.

How does your pricing compare to the national tax franchises?

We offer competitive pricing with full transparency — no hidden fees. Unlike national franchise tax return companies, you are working with a local CPA firm rather than paying for a brand. Call 740-653-7301 to talk through your situation.

When is the tax filing deadline?

Individual federal returns are generally due April 15. An extension moves the filing deadline to October 15, but it extends only the time to file — tax owed is still due in April, so anything unpaid after that date accrues interest and penalties.

What areas do you serve?

Our office is in Lancaster, Ohio, and we work with individuals throughout Fairfield County and central Ohio. The online client portal also lets us assist clients who cannot make it to the office.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Call 740-653-7301 or use our contact page. We offer flexible scheduling, and our goal is to make filing as fast, simple and worry-free as possible.
